From Foster Care to Multi-Millionaire

A true rags to riches story. From foster care to multi-millionaire. No prince charming came to save me. And if one had tried, I would have slammed every literal and figurative door in his face.  All of my paperwork and the social workers from foster care talk about what a fighter I was. Even though I was a broken, abused, starved, and a mostly nonverbal child, I had the fighting spirit. If you are familiar with ACE - Adverse Childhood Experiences - I score 10/10 on the quiz. It has taken years of therapy, resiliency, and grit to grow from the broken child I was to the unicorn you see before you today.  With my bio parents being drug addicts and being that I had a childhood where I didn't know where/when/what my next meal would be or where I would live, I decided early on that I would not repeat the cycle. If you knew me in college, you know that I did not want children or a husband. At that time, my goal was to hike Kilimanjaro, live in Africa, and adopt.  

Well, clearly, I didn't do those things.  You've met The Hubs, or at least seen pictures of him - so you know I did get married. He is 100% my soulmate, my best friend, my confidant, my mirror when I need to have the truth, and the father to my ducks.  

You've met My Ducks, or at least seen pictures of them - so you know I do have children that I grew in my womb. I loved being pregnant. I did have a lot to work through: CPTSD and postpartum depression were very real for me. Now, I love being a mom. My children are at the stage where they are learning how to live their lives, knowing that I am here to catch them when they fall.

You've met My Bonus Duck, or at least seen pictures of him - so you know that I did become a guardian to a beautiful soul. He's amazing, strong, kind, caring, and resilient. I am so proud of who is, with all the challenges life has thrown his way. He is building a future and it is an honor to support him, give him a place to call home, as he pursues his dreams.

That leads us to why The Bougie Budgeter? Why now?The Bougie Budgeter is my 8th business!!!Well, I believe in karma. I believe that with Bonus Duck coming into our lives, it is the perfect time for me to share my journey and inspire you on yours.  I will be sharing the tools, tips, and mindset on how I went from foster care to multi-millionaire - and how you can do it too.

You might think you are not smart enough. Or maybe no one ever taught you. Well, I'm here to fill that space in your life, remind you that I only had 20 words vocabulary as a 4 year old. My parents did not teach me how to budget. My degree in Business Administration did not teach me how to budget. 

Here's the thing, no one is coming to save you. There is no prince charming or princess charming. Hoping and praying for someone to take care of your financial future is how you don't have a financial future.

It sounds uncaring when I share that you need to own that and figure things out yourself. Take responsibility, even if you are married and your spouse doesn't want this. You, and you alone, are responsible for your well being. I say that with love and care as I found my way and continue to make sure I can take care of myself if something were to happen to The Hubs.
