Why Do We Buy Into Hustle Culture As Entrepreneurs?

business mindset unpopular opinion Apr 07, 2025

We use our 80 hour work weeks as a glowing badge of honor. We talk about our sleepless nights, our empty bank accounts, and our lack of vacations. Why??? Somewhere, either by role models or mentors, we've equated being constantly busy with being successful. We've bought into the myth that hustle and grind are the only paths to greatness, believing that if we're not working ourselves to the bone, we're not doing enough.

My opinion: hustle culture is misleading and toxic. You will burnout long before you become “successful”.

As entrepreneurs, it's vital to redefine what success means to you personally. How many hours do you want to work? How much do you want to make (you, not your company)? How many vacations do you want to take? When do you see yourself retiring?

Imagine an entrepreneur culture where we celebrate balance, where we value quality over quantity, and where we recognize that taking time to recharge is a strength. For me, I operate multiple businesses and oversee teams of employees in 15 hours a week. The rest of the time I use for creativity, date days with The Hubs, watching Guardians of the Galaxy on repeat, reading, exercising, and living my life as fully as I can. I no longer buy into hustle culture and it has brought me more abundance and prosperity.
