I Know I’m Qualified. So Why Am I Still Terrified?

Woman wearing gray jacket and black pants, smiling and crossing her arms over her legs with words on the screen that say"I know I'm Qualified. So Why Am I Still Terrified?"

I wish I could tell you that after 18 years of entrepreneurship, eight businesses, three exits, and years of helping business owners understand their finances, imposter syndrome eventually packs its bags and leaves.

But I cannot tell you that. Because I have dragged my feet for over 6 months with crazy things circling in my head.

As I prepare to launch the CFO Advisory Institute, I have caught myself questioning things I logically know I am qualified to teach. Who am I to train other accounting professionals? Who am I to create a certification? Who am I to take something I have spent years developing inside my own businesses and say, “I think this can help you build yours too?”

And I think that little voice gets louder when something matters deeply to us. This isn’t just another offer I decided to launch because I saw an opportunity in the market. I am taking the systems, mistakes, financial lessons, and strategies I have spent years learning and putting them into the hands of bookkeepers and accountants and CPAs who will then use them to help their own clients.

That feels BIG. That feels scary.

I keep questioning if I actually know anything or if I’ve just been lucky. I know what it feels like to look at someone with more letters behind their name, more experience, or a bigger firm and assume they must know something you don’t. Meanwhile, you are sitting across from business owners every day who desperately need someone to help them understand whether they can afford the employee, survive the slow season, build cash reserves, pay themselves, or finally make the business profitable.

And I keep reminding myself of that every day. I don’t need to be perfect, I just need to be willing to be open and to try.

The CFO Advisory Institute isn’t being built because I believe I have every answer. It is being built because I have spent years finding solutions to the same financial problems I see business owners struggle with over and over again. I’ve tested those solutions in my own companies, with my clients, through good years, terrible years, hiring, selling businesses, and plenty of mistakes along the way.

At some point, experience becomes something you are supposed to share.

So yes, apparently you can build multiple businesses, become a multimillionaire through entrepreneurship, develop your own financial frameworks, and still occasionally wonder if you are qualified to teach what you know.

Maybe confidence isn’t reaching a point where you never question yourself again.

I keep hearing my imposter syndrome voice and am finally launching anyway.

The CFO Advisory Institute is coming January 1, 2027.

And I am equal parts nervous, proud, excited, and very aware that this next chapter is asking me to become a little more visible than is always comfortable.

But I think I’m ready.
