Before You Bash Another Bookkeeper’s Work...Your Way Isn’t the Only Right Way

I saw a reel a bit ago where a bookkeeper was bashing on how another bookkeeper had organized the books. That they just didn’t understand why they had put things where they had categorized things.

It gave me the immediate ick.

1. I don’t believe there is only one right way to be a bookkeeper or accountant
2. Often, we are coding things that the owners themselves tell us what it is and while we give them best practice, often they still want it coded where they want it
3. Maybe the owner got the bookkeeping for a great price (free) and the person was not a bookkeeper

It does a real disservice to our entire industry when we do that to each other, especially without knowing the scenario.

Unless it's illegal. Then you gotta look out for your client. And you gotta say things. Put that person on blast.

But what you might think is uplifting and relatable to your clients is actually causing other business owners to be scared to hire accounting professionals because they’ll be taken advantage of. Just because someone did something different from you doesn't make it necessarily wrong…but you putting it on blast, without knowing the details? I do believe that is wrong.
